Der Doppelsampler "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" liegt nun vor und wer den Vorgänger aus dem Jahr 2004 kennt, der weiß bereits, was ihn erwartet: moderne orientalische Musik mit hohem Wohlfühlfaktor und angenehmen Chillout-Elementen.

35 Songs von sehr unterschiedlichen Künstlern, die sich alle die Aufgabe gestellt haben, eine Fusion zwischen zeitgemäßen Rhythmen und orientalischen Harmoniebögen zu entwickeln. Viele von ihnen sind gar nicht im orientalischen Kulturkreis großgeworden, aber sie haben einen Zugang zu dieser - für uns Westeuropäer- sehr exotischen Welt gefunden, zum Glück ohne dabei auf die ewig gleichen, sattsam bekannte, musikalischen Klischees zurückzugreifen.

Hier zeigt sich wieder, wie wichtig es ist, dass Fusionskünstler gleichzeitig in jeweils beiden Welten wirklich zuhause sind und die entsprechenden Strukturen richtig einordnen können.
Im Rahmen des Orient-Booms sind ja leider auch eine ganze Menge CDs in die Läden geschwemmt worden, die eiskalt darauf spekulieren, daß die Käufer dieser Schnellschuß-Produktionen vermutlich zum Thema Orient noch weniger Hintergrundwissen besitzen, als die billig angeheuerten Auftragskünstler.

Bei dem vorliegenden Doppelsampler "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" erübrigen sich derartige Befürchtungen, denn auch diese Compilation ist mal wieder von Radio-DJane Gülbahar Kültür (Funkhaus Europa/Germany - Acik Radyo/Turkey) souverän zusammengestellt worden. Durch ihre Sampler-Reihe "Oriental Garden" ist sie innerhalb der Weltmusikszene offenbar so wichtig geworden, daß bei ihr viele Vorab-CDs von Künstlern landen, noch bevor deren Plattenfirmen das Material zu hören bekommen.

Von ihren DJ-Sets her weiß man, daß Gülbahar Kültür immer nur begrenzt auf üblichen Künstler aus der Türkei, Ägypten oder Algerien zurückgreift. Stattdessen findet man da viel mehr Musik aus Griechenland, Süditalien, Indien, Indonesien, Ungarn oder Spanien, also Ländern, die zwar über eine orientalische Vergangenheit verfügen, aber in unserem Verständnis von Orient immer Randbezirke dargestellt haben. Und dann gibt es auch noch die britischen, deutschen, und amerikanischen Künstler, die sich über Ambient, Goa, Trance, House und Dub in den orientalischen Klangkosmos hineingearbeitet haben und inzwischen bemerkenswerte Arbeiten abliefern. Auf "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" wird diese Fraktion von Prem Joshua, Jeff Bennett, Banco de Gaia und Loop vertreten.

Die "HaremŽs Secret"-Reihe transportiert natürlich mehrheitlich Loungematerial, das problemlos den ganzen Tag im CD-Player auf Replay rotieren kann, aber trotzdem sind darauf mehrere, der jungen wilden Rebellen zu finden, die zeigen auf welch hohem Standard inzwischen moderne orientalische Popmusik produziert wird. Besonders zu erwähnen ist da der junge US-Iraner Idin, der über eine fantastische Stimme verfügt und fast so gut aussieht, wie der berühmte libanesische Sunnyboy Wael Kfoury.

Es gibt einen geringfügigen Unterschied zwischen dem Vorgänger und "HaremŽs Secret, "Vol. 02". Der erste Doppelsampler war durchgängig sehr besinnlich und getragen, er strahlt ganz bewußt eine meditative Stimmung aus. "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" hat dagegen auch ein paar Titel im Programm, die richtig gut grooven, also das was man salopp als "Musik zum Tanzen im Sitzen" bezeichnet. Als Anspieltipps sind da insbesondere Al Yaman aus Tschechien, Cosmic Rocker aus England, Rim Banna aus Palästina, Rachid Taha aus Algerien, Kazem Al Saher aus dem Irak und !Deladap aus Ungarn aufzuführen.

"HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" beinhaltet zwei CDs: a) "Suleika’s Surprises" und b) "Sultan’s Favorites", die aber keine konzeptionelle Trennung darstellen, atmosphärisch stellt der Doppelsampler eine stimmige Einheit dar. Es ist anzunehmen, daß die Zusammenstellung in der nächsten Zeit in allen hochklassigen Restaurants mit orientalischer Küche weltweit zu hören sein wird. Und als Geschenk wird der Doppelsampler ebenfalls häufig über den Tresen gehen, was zum einen auf die gelungene Musikauswahl zurückzuführen ist, dann aber auch der liebevoll gestalteten Digibox anzurechnen ist.

Here comes the double-sampler "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" and those who already know Volume 01 from 2004 will know what to expect: modern, oriental music with a high feelgood factor and pleasing chillout-elements. 35 songs from different arists, that have made it their duty to develop a fusion between modern rhythms and oriental harmonies. Many of them didnŽt even grow up in the oriental society, but have found an access to this world, which is exotic to us west-europeans, luckily without using the same stereotypes over and over again.

This proves once again how important it is that fusion-artists are really at home in both worlds to be able to range in the different structures. Unfortunately there came many cds with the orient-boom that aimed on the fact that the customer has less knowledge of the topic than the bad paid compiler.

With this double-sampler "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" you don`t have to worry about such things, because also this compilation is wisely compiled by radio-DJane Gülbahar Kültür (Funkhaus Europa/Germany - Acik Radyo/Turkey). With her „Oriental Garden 1-3“ compilations she became so important to the worldmusic-scene that she gets advance-cds from some artists even before their record-labels hear the material.

From her DJ-sets we know that Gülbahar Kültür always uses only a few tracks by the usual artists from Turkey, Egypt, or Algeria. Instead of this she uses music from Greece, South-Italia, India, Indonesia, Hungary, or Spain, countries that have an oriental past, but not in our understanding of the orient. And then there are British, German and American artists, who have work themselves into the oriental sound-cosmos through ambient, goa, trance, house and dub and who are delivering remarkable works.

On "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" this fraction is represented by Prem Joshua, Jeff Bennett, Banco de Gaia and Loop. “Harem`s Secret” features of course mainly lounge-material, that could run without problems on “replay” in your cd-player, but nevertheless some of the young wild rebels show at what high standard modern oriental pop-music is produced nowadays. The young US-Iranian Idin should be mentioned, with his fantastic voice and on top he is almost as goodlooking as the famous Libanese sunnyboy Wael Kfoury.

There is a small difference towards the first volume compared to "HaremŽs Secret, "Vol. 02". The first double-sampler was continous contemplative and smooth and was carried by a ruminant mood. "HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" instead has some tracks in the listing that is really grooving and that should be called „music to dance while sitting“. Some of the highlights are Al Yaman from Czech Republic, Cosmic Rocker from England, Rim Banna from Palestine, Rachid Taha from Algeria, Kazem Al Saher from Iraq and Deladap from Hungary.

"HaremŽs Secret, Vol. 02" contains two CDs, "Suleika’s Surprises" and "Sultan’s Favorites", which are not conceptually divided and
presents a unity atmospherically.

It`s a moral certainty that this compilation can be found in all highclass restaurants, with oriental cuisine, in the near future. Also this double-cd will be a highlight as a present, because besides its excellent choice of music, it comes in affectionately designed digibox.
