After "Made in Turkey" and "Made in Greece", the musical journey through the
global club culture aims towards India. When the DJs in Europe play music with
Indian elements (Sitar & Tabla) you see people with happy faces on the dance
floor. The bodies move lithely as if in each of them there lies the hidden
potential of an Indian temple dancer. The situation is of course related to the
success of Bollywood movies in our TV and cinema. Also Bhangra style is a steady
demand in the international music-business nowadays and everybody knows Panjabi
MC. If you reduce the current music of the gigantic sub-continent to a few
Bollywood-Hits and Bhangra-bangers, then that’s an outrageous injustice. The
music of India is as colourful as the diverse people who live in this huge
country. Unfortunately one way marketing of Indian music in the west is almost
taken for granted. Though it is not an easy mission, Lola's World with "Made In
India" tries to correct the hopelessly stereotyped image. That is why you will
find pop, ragga, reggae, twist, rock, funk, dub, electro, hiphop, r&b,
indo-jazz-fusion, drum & bass, Asian underground and even Latin on this
double compilation; but as mentioned: all are MADE IN INDIA. You’re facing an
extremely entertaining mixture, unique in the world. Of course also the
superstars of the Bollywood genre (e.g. Asha Bhosle) can be heard on this packed
double-album with 159 minutes playing time, including as well bhangra-heroes
like Daler Mehndi, Shubha Mudgal and Alisha Chinai (also known as "Madonna of
India"). In difference to many other compilations we did not take tracks from
other 10 compilations to form the 11th one. The search for the highest quality
of the songs is the main driving force in forming this compilation; for example
tracks by Nitin Sawhney, Midival Punditz, Karsh Kale, Bally Sagoo, Bikram Singh,
& Achanak indicate the first class quality. Also many newcomers like Rohan,
Bhangra Brothers, JRagam and Major Singh have to be mentioned, as you will hear
more of them in the future. If you take a closer look you will see that even
foreigners made it onto the CD: Prem Joshua form Germany, Hakan from Turkey, the
Belgian group Studio Pagol and the Polish collective Masala Sound System. What
they have in common is their passion towards the music of India. So this common
feature provided them visas to enter this compilation. As always each CD of this
double compilation creates a very own atmosphere. While the first CD "Café
Hindustani" mainly invites to relax, the second one "Happy Krishna" aims to the
dancing feet. Whoever stays seated while listening to this 2nd CD should be
suffering from some kind of health problems. This compilation by DJane Gülbahar
Kültür (Funkhaus Europa, Cologne, Germany) carries this special spirit and charm
to let the breakthrough of popular Indian music in our
regions.
