Turkey's position at the crossroads of the cultures of Europe, the Middle
East, North Africa, and Asia, no wonder, creates a great musical diversity in
this multiethnic country. As seen in the first edition of "MADE IN TURKEY", to
show this diversity in Turkish music in every respect, we do not tend to collect
"sound fast food" – we deliver TurQuality; we are sure this trademark is
accepted by more and more people. In recent years particularly, many interesting
and charming subcultures developed in the Turkish musical landscape. Gülbahar
Kültür, the Radio-Dj living in Germany, was the first one to take the risk and
combine different music styles from her home country in one album. Although this
concept appealed to many music experts before, it was impracticable since this
is an art one can develop over the years with nothing but an internalized "view
from outside". The diversified mixture of club sounds, folk music, pop,
hard-rock, hip-hop, chansons, sufi and classical Turkish music in the first
edition of double CD compilation "MADE IN TURKEY" is really appreciated;
especially good sales scored in Turkey is a pleasing surprise. Of course, if a
compilation is successful there comes a second part – "Made in Turkey 2" is
hitting the stores in March 2006. The CDs in this double album "Made in Turkey
2" contain 39 tracks in total; they are collected from various styles of musical
life in Turkey. The famous protest singer from the sixties, the unforgettable
Fikret Kizilok (1946– 2001) who became an icon in the anatolic music world,
young artists like Sagopa Kajmer (nowadays a leader of the Turkish hip hop
scene), the multi-culti ensemble Kardes Türküler (the multiethnic group making
music of the Armenian, Kurdish and Azerbaijanian culture) and the Kurdish
actress and singer Rojin underline the musical and cultural diversity of this
country in an eminent way. Also young talents like Burak Aziz, Aylin Aslim,
Göksel, Beyza Durmaz and Zeynep Casalini are wisely chosen for this compilation.
And then, there are these tracks from bands such as Rebel Moves, Lava, Deja-Vu
etc.; one can identify the Turkish musical base by careful listening. It is an
obvious fact that loud and clear, Turkey is a key actor of the global music
world.
